About Nurse Practitioners

What is a nurse practitioner?

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a nurse with advanced education. In addition to a master’s degree, they usually have extensive experience as an RN and further certifications in specific healthcare areas. NPs can still provide primary care and write prescriptions.

Nurse practitioners must complete more than six years of academic and clinical preparation. With this experience, they can prescribe medication, manage chronic conditions and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests. In Tennessee, nurse practitioners must operate under an acting physician, who reviews certain cases.

Michalle Morris has a masters degree in nursing and is adult nurse practitioner certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. You can read more about her extensive 20+ years of experience in her full bio.

Should I select a nurse practitioner in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for my care?

There are many benefits to selecting a nurse practitioner, including:

  • Many accept new patients without an extensive waiting period.
